Journal of Southern Religion Submissions
Policy:
Manuscript submissions: Submissions to JSR are fully
peer-reviewed by members of the editorial board and their designees. Electronic
submissions are welcomed but must be cleared with the Editor before transmission.
Authors wishing to submit paper manuscripts should send three double-spaced copies
to:
Rodger M. Payne, Editor
The Journal of
Southern Religion
Department of Philosophy and Religious
Studies
Louisiana State University
Baton Rouge, LA
70803
General Information: All manuscripts should follow the Chicago Manual
of Style. Please use endnotes that have been separately typed (i.e., not generated
by word processing software); endnotes will be linked to the text and can be descriptive
as well as documentary. Unsolicited manuscripts should not exceed five-thousand
words exclusive of endnotes and should fit broadly into one or more of the categories
outlined by the journal's editorial policies. Materials submitted
to JSR must not have been previously published nor submitted for publication
elsewhere while under review by JSR editors. Inquiries should be directed
to the Editors at jcorriga@mailer.fsu.edu
or rmpayne@lsu.edu All submissions should be accompanied
by the author's name, current institutional affiliation, postal and e-mail addresses.
Paper manuscripts will not be returned. In most cases, authors will be notified
within ninety days whether or not their submission has been accepted.
Electronic publication allows for the addition of images
and other visual or auditory aids, and the editors encourage authors to include
such with articles when appropriate. Authors should make certain that all
submitted materials are clear of copyright claims or that they obtain permission
as required by law. JSR reserves copyright privileges for all materials
published.
Acceptance: If a submission is accepted, the
author will sign a contract with JSR assigning copyright to The
Journal of Southern Religion. After making corrections and revisions, the
author should submit the accepted manuscript on 3.5" disk formatted for an
IBM-compatible PC, indicating on the disk what word processing program was used.
On the same disk please include the following: 1) the complete manuscript saved
as an ASCII generic text file; 2) endnotes in a file separate from the
manuscript; and 3) an abstract of fifty or fewer words in a separate file.
Please include at the top of the first page of the manuscript, the title, your
name, your current academic rank (or equivalent), and your institutional
affiliation. Send disk and one revised hard copy to Rodger M. Payne at the
address given above. Normally, the revised manuscript will be copyedited and
uploaded to the JSR site within three months after receipt of the disk.
At the present time, JSR does not provide authors with offprints of
published materials, but we will notify you by email when your manuscript is
published online.
Solicited essays should conform to the
same criteria but are not restricted by word length requirements.
Book reviews should be no longer than 750 words. Scholars interested
in submitting book reviews to JSR should contact Book Review Editor Art
Remillard. Book reviewers should consult the Book
Review Style Sheet before submitting reviews.
